Why Clinical Photography Matters
At Rubenesque Lipoedema Clinic, clinical photography is performed using the same standardised protocols used by many plastic surgery practices. This ensures that images are not simply photographs, but accurate clinical records that allow meaningful comparison over time.
Each photograph is taken using the same stance, body positioning, camera distance, lighting, and background at every appointment. This level of consistency allows images to be compared side-by-side with precision, making it much easier to identify subtle changes in swelling, tissue contour, skin quality, or healing.
We also use high-resolution imaging technology, producing exceptionally detailed photographs. This means images can be enlarged and reviewed on larger screens if needed, allowing areas such as skin texture, tissue changes, or wound healing to be assessed clearly without any loss of detail.
By using professional clinical photography standards, we are able to carefully monitor your progress, support treatment decisions, and maintain accurate medical documentation throughout your care journey.
All images are taken respectfully, with your consent, and stored securely in accordance with Australian privacy and health record regulations.
What Happens During Imaging
Our photography process follows a structured clinical protocol designed to produce consistent, comparable images at every stage.
Controlled Lighting Conditions
All images are stored securely as part of your clinical record and used only to monitor treatment progress.
Consistent Angles & Framing
Photographs are taken from the same angles and distances during each visit to ensure like-for-like progress tracking.
Standardised Positioning
Images are captured using the same body positioning each time to allow accurate comparisons between sessions.
Secure Image Storage
Professional lighting is used to maintain consistent exposure and reduce shadows that may affect image clarity.
-
Photographs are taken prior to surgery or treatment to establish a clear starting point.
This baseline documentation provides an objective visual record of tissue condition before any intervention takes place. It allows both practitioner and patient to clearly understand the original presentation of the area being treated. Having consistent baseline imagery also supports accurate comparisons during recovery and follow up appointments. -
Images may be captured during recovery appointments to observe healing and swelling patterns.
These photographs help track visible changes as the body moves through different healing stages. Subtle shifts in swelling, contour and tissue response can be assessed more accurately through side by side comparison. This process supports informed clinical decisions when adjusting recovery care plans. -
Follow up imaging allows comparison across different time points to assess long term outcomes.
Images taken across multiple appointments help build a structured visual timeline of your recovery journey. Reviewing these comparisons allows both practitioner and patient to better understand how the body is responding over time. This documentation also supports ongoing evaluation of treatment outcomes and recovery progress.
